A long way from the snow.
1995
Kodagu
Born on 14 May 1995 in Kodagu, the coffee-growing hill district of southern Karnataka. It rains hard there for four months a year and it has never snowed. The nearest snow sits two thousand kilometres north and four thousand metres up.
2016
The Republic Day contingent
Selected for the NCC contingent at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. The route into the mountains ran through the discipline of a uniformed cadet programme, not through a ski club.
2016–2019
Instructor before athlete
Mountaineering came first, after Bollywood films put the idea of the Himalaya in her head. She trained at ABVIMAS and at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, then spent a year teaching there as a guest instructor. Alpine skiing arrived as a tool of that job.
2018
Watching Pyeongchang
She watched the 2018 Winter Olympics and found Marit Bjørgen. Cross-country is the endurance end of the sport, and a mountaineering instructor already has most of the engine for it. She had been on snow for about three years.
2019
Certified in New Zealand
An international ski instructor certification in New Zealand, on the slopes of an active volcano. Mount Ruapehu is the first mountain in her record that is also a ski field.
2022–
Onto the FIS circuit
Her first FIS-scored races were in Akureyri, northern Iceland, in January 2022. Planica followed in 2023 and Kazakhstan in 2024, then Harbin, Trondheim, Chile, and a first World Cup start at Ruka.
